Invisible Mending
A hole doesn't have to mean the end of a sweater you love.
Invisible mending is the art of disappearing damage. At Re By Lisa Tse, we hand-repair moth holes, snags, and small tears in cashmere, merino wool, and silk knits using Swiss darning, a time-honored hand technique matched to your garment's exact yarn weight, gauge, and knit pattern, so the mend blends back into the fabric instead of sitting on top of it.
Swiss darning (duplicate stitch): A precise hand technique where new stitches are built directly over the existing knit structure, row by row. Whenever possible, we harvest matching yarn from a discreet area of the garment, like the inside collar, a side seam, or a pocket, so the repair uses the sweater's own fibers.
This technique doesn't look like a patch. It doesn't leave visible thread lines. The goal is always the same: a repair you can't see and barely feel.
Best suited for:
- Moth holes
- Small tears
- Thinning or worn areas before they become holes
- Underarm and friction holes
The craft behind it: Swiss darning takes patience and a trained eye. Every repair is matched yarn for yarn, knit for knit. Designer's eye, artisan's hand. No shortcuts, no visible thread lines, no compromise on the piece you've kept season after season.
Also suited to cotton, linen and blends.
